Metallic, grassy aroma. Flavor is is tangy and bites the tongue with pleasant fruity and grassy flavors. Refreshing and lager-like. Braudog (3777), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 8, 2004 This is a golden beer that's highly sedimented with tiny still particles clouding the whole glass. There's little to no head. The aroma is grainy. The flavor is citricly acidic and vaguely sweet with an underlying crisp malt flavor. This is actually a very good light cooler of a beer. willblake (2189), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 6, 2004 First tried this at a local beerfest in MT before it had been released in the area. It was a blistering hot day (90s) and towards the end of the day I kept going back to this beer for refreshment. Living in the NW, I had been lately craving good rye bread (NW bread is awful) and lapped up the distinct rye flavor of this beer. Nice yeast and malt in the nose, and the beer is blond as a MT field in October. Not a great beer, but refreshing for sure, crisp and icy cold is the only way to drink it. The wierd brown floaty suspensions were not attractive. Nevertheless, it did not get hot enough the rest of the summer for me to go out and buy a six-pack, I've only had it one time since. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA

I din't get no stinkin' rye here; seems like recent ratings are higher, who knows? maybe they improved the recipe in the 6 months since I sampled this. Naaaah. It's a decent, inoffensive blonde, more hoppy than I expected, quite drinkable if by "drinkable" you mean, drink a lot, get plowed, and not curl up your nose in disgust because you're drinking Bud or Miller. This brewery does not deserve my business since they dropped Doubleblack. bluemeow76 (693), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Dec 31, 2003 Pours a yellowy amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma is yeasty and the rye is very present. Very blah, I didn't enjoy this at all. Gromit (462), Port Orchard, Washington, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 20, 2003 Sucky thing about visiting my inlaws is that it's really hard to find good beer, so I'm stuck with Redhook, Pyramid, and a few others. I could be worse. The Macro case is *huge* but there's only a tiny stack of shelves for anything else,
From the bottle: "...is pure summertime refreshment. Gently roasted barley, delicate hops, and a touch of rye combine for a remarkably balanced seasonal ale. Slightly unfiltered, Sunrye also exudes and inviting pearl glow that compliments its more distinguished flavor." The date stamp indicates that this is less than a month old from day of bottling.
Pours a light golden color with just a little bit of head which doesn't last long at all. There's quite a bit of floating sediment that doesn't quite look like yeast. It's weird: it's not nearly as cloudy as a hefe, but the sediment particals are darker. "Slightly unfiltered?" Isn't that like being a little pregnant? I'm thinking it's filtered and then they add stuff in another process.
Smells pretty good; kinda fruity. I should state here that I have no idea what rye smells or tastes like, so that could be it. The scent reminds me of a hefe only stronger.
Tastes... like a cross between a white and a hefe. Again, slightly fruity but not as crisp as a white, but it doesn't really have the wheat taste of a hefe.
Mouthfeel is full but watery. There's quite a bit of carbonation here. It's not as crisp as a white or a pilsner, but it leaves me wanting something more. I'm wishing it was more like a white in that respect.
Drinkability is average. It's definately a summer seasonal and it'd be great after doing something physical, but not as a session beer.

Crisp and refreshing on the tongue. Light, fruity notes of lemon zest. Malts were grainy and slightly nutty. Some "beery" qualities. Dryish, thirst-quenching finish. This beer was better than I expected, but after having it again, it didn’t impress as much as the first time. Not a bad lawnmower beer, I suppose.
