Commercial Description:
Introducing Redhook Sunrye, a light, refreshing summer beer brewed with six barley malts, including a touch of organic rye. The opalescent golden color of Sunrye is a result of its unfiltered nature. Light and crisp, this brew was made for slaking summer thirsts.

12oz bottle. Pours a white head with a golden body. Smells of malt and lemongrass. Tastes of malt but it is crisp with some lemon/citrus. Overall, it makes for a good hot weather session beer that is more preferable to the usual A-B products that are drank in summer.

Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy golden-yellow with a decent, clingy, foamy, white head that slowly fades. Taste is of some rye, honey, citrus, wheat and some hops. Has a good mouthfeel. The body is slightly thin. Rather crisp, clean, smooth, refreshing and very easy to drink, even when it is warm/hot. A great brew to have on a hot day and it isn’t half bad during the winter months. Overall, it isn’t bad, but I wish it had more of a rye taste to it. Worth revisitng again.

12oz bottle. Poured a cloudy light orange color with a thin light white head. Nose is grainy and toasted, hints of rye bread characters. No hops to speak of, slight citrus. Taste is of grain and citrus, taste the heavy rye upfront followed by a sour lemon zest. Overly grainy and average. Medium bodied, not bad.

bottle dated 4/14/08 poured a golden color with a thin white head that fell. aroma has sweet malt, mild rye, and a grainy wheat. mouth feel is light with average carbonation. flavor starts with sweet grains, rye touches, some mild yeast, and faint bitterness. good considering this is not the newest bottle and better than anticipated.

A lightly hazed blonde with a thick white head. A grainy rye aroma. A watery grainy beer, with light honey, no character. Blaaahh! Flour City brewfest, August 15 2008.

This bubbly yellow beer poured with a thin off-white head that disappeared in seconds. There is actually a pretty solid malt base that is fairly tasty. However, this is a beer that is designed for summer thirst quenching, so is a bit thin, but crisp and refreshing.

i think this one is really getting an unfair bad rap. the thought of replacing a summer wheat beers’ malt with rye is interesting, if it can be executed half way correct. the question is can it remain light, fruity and suitable for hot weather but bring a spicy note or other rye quality that wheat cannot provide. in this case, neither. pour is regular old yellow with low carbonation. nose beholds the slightest touch of some rye character along with possibly some yeast. flavor contains the same proportion of interest. rye might be offputting for the style where heavy character is often expected to be subdued. however, rye is bold and should be treated and used accordingly. this turns out to be wasted potential and leaves me sad with disappointment.

Slight hazy golden yellow with a thin cover of bubbly white head that disappears. Malty sweet aroma, more sweet light malt taste then some slight citrus. A crisp finish no noticeable hops, should try a fresher bottle (bottle date April 29 2008)
