The head is beige and pours fairly thick, bubbly and sticks to the sides of the glass. The nose is nicely balanced, with notes of both floral hops and bready malts. Other hints include yeast, grass, earth, caramel, light note of brown sugar and slight hint of bourbon. The body is lightly carbonated with a sweet note up front, but floral hoppiness in the back end. The finish is quite hoppy, spicy and bitter. Some flavor notes are bread, grass, yeast, caramel and toffee.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 14, 2009 Pours copper to light amber with off-white head that is significant, but dissipates within minutes to a thin rimjob, though much Belgian lace is left behind as the pint goes empty.
Nose is light with some pine and mixed fruit.
Palate is far more to the sweet side of things with caramel, honey, and hops come in afterwards in a lame attempt to balance it out (but don’t quite do so much). One of the maltier and less hop focused barleywines I’ve had in awhile.. bonk0076 (91), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 14, 2009 Pours a clear amber reddish color with a moderate beige head that leaves a nice sticky lacing. Aroma is of distinct citrus notes, with pine, floral, and caramel underlying it. Taste features hop bitterness up front, with a sweet and prominent caramel to follow, and a long boozy roasted malt finish. Ceebs25 (237), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2009 22 oz bomber. This is a very light barleywine, especially for the 10 plus percent abv. But then again, it might just be that the flavor is fairly mild for such a strong beer. Definitely nothing bad here, just lacking a bit of character. In the aroma, there’s some nice rich, fruity malt notes, a honey sweetness, and a earthy bark hop in the background. It poured with a minor layer of fluffy white head, a medium body, and red amber in color. The feel of the this one has a unsurprising mild alcoholic bite and rich body. Notes of mixed medium ripe fruits, caramel, sugar, sandwich bread, light citrus, and that same earthy tree note as the aroma. So overall pretty decent and kind of what I expected here. fidel (973), Livermore, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2009 650 ml bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a thin, clingy beige head. Taste is of malt, caramel, toffee, hops, pine, resin, fruit and grapefruit. Similar aroma. Slightly bitter. Nice lingering aftertaste. Slightly slick body. Easy to drink, almost too easy. Nice to have on a cold day. Worth picking up again. Beerlando (2341), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Bomber. Pours mostly clear, dark coppery-red in color, with a moderate, foamy head of ivory tinted foam. Tall, cobweb-like ribbons of sticky lacing coat the glass well. The aroma shows darkly toasted toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and bread in the malt base. Sharp grapefruit and resinous pine lend ample hop fragrance, though it never quite catches up to the avalanche of malty sweetness. The flavor is a little more balanced, stikingly hoppy grapefruit rind and evergreen bitterness countering the sugary caramel and buttery, toasty toffee. A big, thick, sticky body sports moderate carbonation, finishing with clinging bitterness that lingers for minutes. It’s a solid, hoppy, American style barleywine reminiscent of Old Guardian. kiefdog (1624), Tampa, Florida, USA
