Nose of bitter chocolate and coffee, which also come through as tastes in the body. Thinner than expected too but it carries a lot of flavor with it. Looked interesting on the menu, and so did the crocodile pizza. Problem is that the two didn’t really go together.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 19, 2009 Tasting at StlWill’s. Dark brown pour, with little carbonation and a good coffee and slightly smoky aroma. Flavor was some coffee, chocolate and finished light and a a little bitter. Ok beer, but not worth seeking out. floydian1 (293), FNQ, Australia
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 17, 2009 250ml bottle into tulip glass. An opaque black beer with a dark brown tinge and a very short lasting loose beige head. Nose of prominent dark chocolates with a red wine-like aura. Taste is roasted dark malts with bitter dark chocolate and a hint of dark roasted coffee beans in the finish. Certainly not as sweet as I expected it to be. It is medium to full bodied with a rich creamy mouthfeel and low carbonation. Good dessert beer. mkel07 (556), Brisbane, Australia
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2009 250ml bottle. Rich and dark with a frothy tan blanket of foam. Looks thick and complex with aromas of chocolate and burnt malt wafting from the glass. Lively in the mouth with a burnt flavour, although there is not as much flavour there as I expected. Smooth enough but just lacks a little something. OSLO (829), Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 1, 2009 [Bottle] Pours fairly dark brown with essentially no head. Aroma is almost completely absent, just a vague sweetness that really does little for me. Taste has stale coffee, fresh cilantro, a little chocolate towards the end, some molasses, roasted malt and raisin. Thankfully that cilantro dies down a little as it warms. Quite thin, long finish. An unusual beer that I would kind of like when the chocolate and coffee struck me just right, but otherwise it really wasn’t that great, especially that cilantro. Vinous, dark chocolate aroma. Malty, dark chocolate bitterness. Metallic, a bit dry. Light fruity. bitterness is too dry. Not too good. SorenE (128), , New Zealand
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 19, 2009 I had a lovely couple of sessions at the Red Oak in Sydney. Unfortunately I lost my notes but I can report that all the beers I tried were perfect examples of their respective style. The aroma, flavour, mouthfeel, malt and hoppyness is exactly what you would imagine from reading standard guidelines. Very well crafted and very tasty, but a bit to predictable to be outstanding.
This one was pretty standard.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 9, 2009 [Bottle] shared by STLWill. Pours a deep brown with a small soapy tan head. Aroma is some chalky cocoa, and not a whole lot else. Flavor has lots of dry, powdery cocoa, plenty of roasted malts, and a touch of coffee.
