MBison (449), Southern Highlands, Australia Aug 25, 2008 On tap at the Redoak. Arrived dark brown with a tinge of red and an averaged sized, creamy, tanned head which last very well. Aroma was very promising with strong notes of Belgian chocolates and espresso coffee; roasted malts, caramel, and some dates & figs in the back. Flavor was a somewhat of a let down, seemed a little to watery and thin; toasty roasted malts, coco powder, dark chocolate, raisins, milky coffee and some dried berries (currents, cranberries). Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation, a watery texture, creamy mouthfeel (mild) and an average finish.
TimE (1111), Tokyo, Japan Jun 8, 2008 Pitch black color and the nose erupts of .... melted margerine, dark chocolate and black currents. Med-mouth, rich creamy margerine and black currents. Way too lactic for anyone to appreciate. brownporter (10), Sydney, Australia Apr 23, 2007 On tap. Very mild aroma as to be expected from a brown porter. Roasted brown colour. Well balanced drinking with subtle roasted chocolate biiterness in background. A proper brown porter thinner than the american varieties - a great drinking beer (one of my favourities at the RedOak - though always served to cold) eczematic (1172), Sydney, Australia Mar 23, 2007 Quite a boring beer. Licoricey sweet malt, finish goes nowhere. Not enough hops or yeast character to give it shape. Flabby and uninspired. duff (5407), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Feb 5, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown in colour. This showed some light sweet chocolate and caramel aswell as some roasted malt in the finish. This was quite sweet and thin. Had some OK flavour though.
