Commercial Description:
Hefeweizen is a Bavarian term for cloudy wheat beer. Wheat is our most popular grain, so it isn’t surprising that it has been used to produce beers for many hundreds of years. Redoak’s Hefeweizen is brewed using a large proportion of wheat malt, subtle hopping and a classic Bavarian strain of wheat yeast that gives this beer its distinct flavour profile with hints of banana and cloves.

Bottled. Golden colour, rich head. Banana aroma. Medium sweet with balanced esters and soft mouthfeel. A refreshing, well made hefeweizen.

Very pale. Took some work to get any sediment out of the bottle and into my glass. The head didn’t hold. It’s billed as Weihenstephan yeast, full-on Bavarian but it smells Berliner to me with that clean tartness and vague gooseberry notes. Vaguely tart on the palate with hints of lime. Not a bad beer, but not remotely Bavarian.

Tap@Redoak, Sydney. There was something a little odd about the aroma, i don’t know what it was, but i will go fro a slight rubbery character. As a few others have mentioned, get passed this and its a very nice, pretty authentic German wheat indeed. Pretty smooth clove/banana flavours as expected. Liked it a lot flavourwise, even if it did have some Aussie fizz in the finish.

Quite enjoyed this as I don’t always appreciate too many wheat beers. The taste was great without being over the top, banana and cloves and a fairly good body.
