Betty (232), Walgett, NSW, Australia Oct 20, 2004 Had five of redoak’s now. This is the best but the place is a stinkhole. Right there on Clarence Street. A little bit of weird vegetable soup and only vaguely sweet. Otherwise I guess this is what a Vienna is supposed to taste like. The dud(e) pured a big head on mine which hung around; but it meant i only got 200ml of beer in my tiny 250ml glass...
ChrisTurner (199), Melbourne, Australia May 5, 2007 Bottle -- Never had this style before -- it certainly looks better thyan a standard Oz lager! Pours a rich amber/red with a generous off-white head with not much retention. Quite a bit of lacing. A bit light on for aroma and I can’t really put my finger on anythng much apart from some maltiness. Medium smooth palate with some wateriness. Flavour has roasted malt and a little bitterness. Quite OK.
brownporter (10), Sydney, Australia Apr 23, 2007 On tap at the RedOak - another of my RedOak favourites I’m afraid (I work around the corner so I have a few!). Moderate malt aroma. Copper appearance. Very clean larger with a malty depth - very well balanced. Light-medium body and very drinkable. One of my standard quaffing beers when they haven’t run out of it! duff (5407), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Feb 5, 2007 Draught@Redoak. I quite enjoyed this one. Some light caramelly sweetnesss, with some subtle berry fruit characters and toasty malt. Quite clean and straight forward, but i enjoyed it. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Dec 11, 2006 From the bottle, this looked ok with its dark amber hue and solid off-white head. Aroma was strongly of apricots and honey, but not much malt really. On tasting the malt is more obvious, but the apricots still dominate with a touch of metal. The flavour is reasonably bitter and not sweet, which is good. However, it doesn’t have much depth and seems quite akin with many of its australian macro cousins on the lager side of the family. A rarity in the Redoak stable where the hops seems to dominate the malt, but in this style it’s a bit misplaced. motelpogo (4360), Plzen, Czech Republic Oct 26, 2006 bottled, brewtopia, melbourne. never quite got around to trying this at the brewpub, figuring it would be pretty boring. and so it was, a stale honeyed aroma, amber, faint bitterness, a bit of self raising flour
