Pitch black with a creamy, nougat head. the aroma has notes of roasted malt, sweetness, dark chocolate and some licorice - yummi!! The flavour has a pleasant sweetness, lots of slightly bitter, dark chocolate, licorice, rye bread and a slightly citrussy finish. It’s an incredibly nice hvidtøl, a style I enjoy from time to time, but this is beyond all doubt the best I ever tasted!!

Bottle. Very dark brown colour. Semi-stable brown head. Sweet brown sugar aroma and flavour. Sweet dark bread flavour. Quite sweet, but not sickly. A nice hvidtøl.

[Sampled in 2005.] Having sampled a row of Johns beers, this was really a surprise. The only "ale-hvidøl" in Denmark, not too sweet and with notes of smoke, a lot of ingredients despite its low abv., great dark brown look and with a full body. Let me have more of this for my risengrød.

Balck colour with a tan to brownish head. The aroma is sweet of malt with some smokyness to it. The taste is sweet smoky and with some hints of metallic. The palate is nice and soft. This is a very fine example of a "Hvidtøl" type beer.

Bottle. A couple of days past ’best before’. Pours almost pitch black with a big, brown head. Some lacing. Sweet, earthy, bread-like aroma. Malts. Flavour is sweet and quite smoked. Hadn’t seen that much smoke coming - not usual for the style; it’s usually more subtle imho. Some fruity notes. Sweet hoppy finish. Again, hops aren’t the most common thing in the style. Dry. Fruity notes here as well. Remote notes of apple appear as it warms. Lingering smoked notes. This is the most interesting beer of the style I’ve tried. Not as drinkable as the other ones I’ve tried, because of the smoked notes, but definitely interesting. 02-08-07.

Bottle. Pours a dark red-brown colour with a nice sticky big average lasting head. Sweet aroma with some smoked malt, caramel and dark fruits. Flavour has a little smokiness, roasted malt, caramel, cane sugar and grains. Pretty good for its style.
