JorisPPattyn (4691), Antwerpen, Belgium Oct 10, 2005 Clear, but dark-amber beer, with orange highlights; smaller off-white head, fast gone. Earthy & leafy notes, dark malts; "Loden" (felt) aroma, bit meaty even. Expressly dark malts taste, chocolate, even roasted coffee; bitterish finish with a good hops component. Jez says toffee, but only the roasted, bitter flavour half, not the sweet-sugary. Very unexpectedly thin, nearly watery palate, as if all the above is just flavour dissolved in water (great! - that’s the definition of beer). I would have expected more palate from such a beer, certainly at 5.5% ABV. Palate is seriously lacking, and therefore unbalances the whole. shrubber85 (2598), COB Speicher, Iraq May 17, 2005 Bottle. Chocolate malt aroma. Medium amber color with small head. Balanced sweetness and bitter chocolate malt flavor. Medium body. An interesting mixture of a dunkel and a landbier. Papsoe (11421), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 10, 2008 (Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Clear amber golden with a dense, off-white head leaving laces. Clean, malty and very German aroma. Medium-bodied, solid and clean malt base with a whiff of flowery hops. Dry finish. 050608 rauchbier (2882), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Sep 24, 2004 Bottle, from Vroni’s in Bamberg. Amber bronze, moderate white head and moderate condition. Gentle sweet toffee and malt aromas with a vaguely spirity alcohol note. Sweet malt with a touch more toffee in the nose and a low gentle hoppiness. Toffee dominated finish.
