Aurelius (2507), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 20, 2007 Spongy tan head on an opaque beer. Coffee, bitter cocoa, nuts and lactose aroma. Coffee and nutty grain flavor. No sweetness, light tartness. Mostly balanced, but not a lot of complexity. Enjoyable. obguthr (707), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Aug 26, 2007 Shockoe festival Richmond VA-Draft: Pronounced peanut and charred oak aroma. Black color with a medium yellow head. Tastes of smoke and charred wood. Tasty espresso finish. Not heavy at all, rather light tasting in fact. Easy to drink and immensely enjoyable. maniac (2022), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 23, 2007 Dark black body with a medium creamy tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Sweet roated malt and chocolate flavor with some light molasssas. Nice creamy mouthfeel but somewhat ligher body than I’d have liked. General_Gao (2579), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Apr 2, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Clear dark brown color with off white head that laced the glass. Lots of roasty coffee aroma and flavor with malty caramel undertones. Very smooth with roasty finish. Norton (288), The Fan, Richmond, Virginia, USA Dec 23, 2002 Had on draft @ Richbrau. Blackish brown in color, not much light getting through this one! Not much of a head - light tan but dissipated relatively quickly. Very balanced flavor. Delightful roasted flavor is most redeeming quality, but you can pick up the graininess, too. No bitterness! This beer went down easily, thankfully not cumbersome; drinkable in quantities (I ended up having 3 or 4, lost count!) Carbonation was perfect because it was unnoticeable. Beer was served probably a little colder than it should have been. Last half of the pint was the best - as it warmed, flavors came through more deeply. I was very impressed with this. Too bad they only have this as a seasonal brew in winter. Good job with this brew, Richbrau! A solid all-around effort!
