Richbrau Oatmeal Stout

Dark brown with a slight brown head. Aroma is oatmeal,roast and a hint of smoke. Flavor is the same.

Maniac bought a keg of this stuff so I had ample opportunity to sample. (Sample Date: 12/23/2008 Source:Richbrau Brewery) Roast aroma with some chocolate. Cloudy dark brown. Nice rich chocolate and roasty in flavor. Medium body with medium creamy mouthfeel. Hint of sourness. Excellent session beer.

Served on draft at maniac’s apartment. Pours a clear brown color with a small brown head. Aroma is oatmeal with some slightly tart notes. Taste is oatmeal with slight smoke and cereal notes. Medium bodied.

On draft at maniac’s place. Black, reddish at edges. Coffee and chocolate aroma. Flavor matches with a definite oat driven silkiness in the boy. OK but not great. Probably suffered in the ratings from being consumed right behind the Cadlly’s brew.

Spongy tan head on an opaque beer. Coffee, bitter cocoa, nuts and lactose aroma. Coffee and nutty grain flavor. No sweetness, light tartness. Mostly balanced, but not a lot of complexity. Enjoyable.

Shockoe festival Richmond VA-Draft: Pronounced peanut and charred oak aroma. Black color with a medium yellow head. Tastes of smoke and charred wood. Tasty espresso finish. Not heavy at all, rather light tasting in fact. Easy to drink and immensely enjoyable.

On nitro tap at the brewpub on 12/23/2008. Dark black body with ruby highlights. Sweet roast and chocolate aroma. Roast, chocolate and cream flavor with a dry bitterness lingering in the background. Medium body with low carbonation. 7/5/7/4/15 - 3.8 08/23/2007: Dark black body with a medium creamy tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Sweet roated malt and chocolate flavor with some light molasssas. Nice creamy mouthfeel but somewhat ligher body than I’d have liked. 6/5/7/4/14 - 3.6

Draught at the brewpub. Clear dark brown color with off white head that laced the glass. Lots of roasty coffee aroma and flavor with malty caramel undertones. Very smooth with roasty finish.
