Commercial Description:
This beer is made from a recipe by the James River Homebrewers, who came in and helped us brew their beer. This is how Steve Severtson describes the brew that he formulated, "a beer style from the pre-prohibition days when German-American brewers made beer like those from the old country using American ingredients. Unable to get German malts, corn was used to offset the high tannins in American malt. Hopped like a German Pils but with a grainy corn sweetness." Alcohol: 6 abv Starting Gravity: 13.9°P Malt: 2 Row, Corn, Carapils Hops: Mt. Hood, Tettnang.

On tap at the brewpub on 06/09/09. Fairly clear golden body with a medium creamy white head. Sweet corn, honey and light pale malt aroma. Sweet corn and light honey flavor with a good floral hop kick. Medium light body with moderately carbonation.

Sampled on draft at the 2nd annual Virginia Beer Festival at Capital Ale House Midlothian. Pours a hazy lemon yellow with a thin head. Average head retention and lacing. Aroma is malty and slightly grainy with noble hops and light toast. Taste is bitter, grassy hops with light graininess and light apple like fruit notes. Medium bodied.

Sweetish smell, faint hops. Medium gold, good lacing. Flavor is odd. Starts sweet, burst of floral hops, bit of anise, then a corny finish. Someone hopped my Coors. Rerate at VA Beer Festival on 7/3/09. Clear light gold, aroma of corn and a bit of butter. Flavor was muted, corn, light floral hops, hint of blackberry. Got more butter in the nose than the mouth. I usually don’t detect diacetyl very well, so this was odd. I should also note that no one else was picking up diacetyl, so in all likelihood something else was at work here that I was picking up on.
