Spicy-sweet caramel aroma. Earth-spiced apple flavor front turns to spicy herb, dry wood, evergreeen resin, and tart apple on the ending. Smooth and light-medium bodied with a dry, tingly finish. Looks and tastes like a nice ESB. hellbilly (1544), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

Pours a dark gold, very clear, with a small but persistent white head. Aroma is crystal malt, with subtle butterscotch and hints of earthy yeastiness, all mingling with rustic British hops. Flavor is strong caramel upfront, balanced with a pleasant hoppy bite, and with some distinct but pleasant butterscotch in the background. Finish is very clean, with a hoppy aftertaste leaving you wanting more. Alcohol is strong, but blends well and is not at all unpleasant. Overall, a very well balanced beer. reddragon (28), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

A decent overall flavor, though not outstanding given that it is a winter seasonal. Slightly more hoppy in balance over the malts. Made me fart nasty though. Watch out. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Half-liter bottle. Slight whiff of hops yields to standard grainy beer smell. Pours gold with a tinge of amber in the center, and a big head that turns to sponge and leaves lace as it drains. Taste is fine. Not quite the hop bomb they describe, but this is an English brew. However, the malts are mighty nice. Still a bit of graininess, but quite crisp and, well, "light," with a slight honey character. A few more hops come up later on, with a definite American character. A better showcase for English malt than for its hops. Bought from Whole Foods. daniele (1744), Italy
