Olde England meets the New World in this strong, warming golden ale, brewed by Peter Scholey. Master brewer for the late and much-lamented Brakspear Brewery of Henley-on-Thames, England, Peter started his own brewing operations in 2003. Bad Elf is a hop-lover’s dream, balancing a generous amount of famous English malt with an astounding 45 ounces of fresh hops – including American Cascade – per barrel.

In the bottle at the 2007 Crescent Moon Holiday Beer Tasting. Pours a BMC yellow with no head at all. Has a mild fruit and aldehyde aroma. This tastes better than a macro, but not much better. A rather boring beer, but at least it does have a somewhat bitter residual character. Fairly thin, but not as thin as many of the beers by this brewer.

Bottle. Brew poured a light golden color, head was fizzy and off white. Nose of some citrus fruits, light hops and some yeast. An ok beer.

Quite disappointed in this brew as it is rather boring. Very light look and almost no smell except for an extremely light hop aroma. The taste has light caramel notes and an odd sourness.

Bottle. Pours a lightly hazy amber color with a lacy pale orange head. Sweet aroma of citrus, grapefruit. Sweet flavor of citrus, caramel, bread. Lingering bitter finish.

Aroma is a sour yeast smell. Pure clear amber. In fact I was amazed at how clear it was. Not much hop in this one, and tastes like bile (sour and yeasty). Definitely an earthy euro malt.
