Olde England meets the New World in this strong, warming golden ale, brewed by Peter Scholey. Master brewer for the late and much-lamented Brakspear Brewery of Henley-on-Thames, England, Peter started his own brewing operations in 2003. Bad Elf is a hop-lover’s dream, balancing a generous amount of famous English malt with an astounding 45 ounces of fresh hops – including American Cascade – per barrel.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden hue. Aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg. Very active carbonation. Flavor of piney hops that leads way to an almost wheat beer taste.

Nice aroma.... slight sense of apricot... Pours a nice golden color. Pleasant aftertaste and quite hoppy. I received this in my BOM shipment and am happy with it, despite the poor percentile. I would buy this in the store, but it would not be my first choice.

Part of a BOM club shipment. Pours a medium amber with a decent sized head. There was a fair amount of lacing sticking around. The scent was of malty with some earthy tones. The flavor was rather bland, without much to write home about. Not a bad winter strong ale, but not one I am going to look for in the stores.

The 16.9 ounce bottle poured a perfectly clear amber colored beverage with a modest sized smooth white head that was mostly lasting and left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was, surprisingly, quite subtle. There seemed to be some hints of grasses mixed with notes of toasted white bread. The body was medium-full with lively carbonation and a slightly watery texture. The flavor starts out lightly sweet but quickly takes on a light bitterness and then stays that way through the medium long finish.

Aroma of floral, maybe citrus, something sharpish, and I think malt. Amber color with a departing head; bubbles at the edge. Medium mouthfeel. Something spicy; some malt. Definitely citrus hop. Very nice stuff, and the malt seems to not be overcome by the hop. After a few mouthfuls the hop seems to gain more floral character. Pretty good stuff.

Bottle. Dirty gramineous odor reminds of many a German Pils, slightly sweet and malty with evidence of Cascade use. Pale, almost sickly orange-golden body with a pretty, soapy beige head. Lace. Dry, medium-hoppy taste, medium-thin body with a try, lightly warm, lightly fruity aftertaste. Toned-down grapefruit and pine with bg citrus and a good deal of bready malt. An avg session, not bad at all (but by no means exceptional).

Pou is a dark orange with a white head. Aroma is a little hard to come by but there are some bready malts if you think hard enough. Flavor is much better. The hops really come out and balance with the strong malts. Finish is bitter and a bit sour. Pretty tasty and should get a better review on here.

mild and enjoyable. A nice orange-amber crystal clear hue, a subtle presense of carbonation and a frothy white head whit faded quickly. A malty aroma with mainly a bread like aspect, but citrusnotees were presenst. A nice hoppy flavor which i found to be mild enough to complement its almost soft malt base. an okay beer.
