Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned: Seasonal.
"Winter Ale". Ridgeway produce two versions of Bad Elf "Winter Ale" - one at 4.5%, and the other at 6%. There is a separate listing for the 4.5%.
Olde England meets the New World in this strong, warming golden ale, brewed by Peter Scholey. Master brewer for the late and much-lamented Brakspear Brewery of Henley-on-Thames, England, Peter started his own brewing operations in 2003. Bad Elf is a hop-lover’s dream, balancing a generous amount of famous English malt with an astounding 45 ounces of fresh hops – including American Cascade – per barrel.

neat bottle. the appearance looks like the bluebird bitter... the smell if full of funky hops in a british bitter... the extra alcohol% tastes great with this typical british bitter... the cascade hops are in there somewhere, but they are well hidden... this is a very drinkable winter ale. Most winter ales are tasty but not complex at all... this is a perfect example of this style. It is not worth the 5 dollars that I spent on it, but every beer is worth trying once.

($5.75 per Bottle) A golden hued ale with a light tan head that disappeared far too quickly. The citrus flavor from the Cascade hops shines through but is in good balance with the malt flavors and the other hops. An excellent English ale!

50cl bottle. Clear gold with a slight white head. Grapefruit citrus nose, some light pine. Decidedly grapefruit flavor, not overpowering or anything. Some malt peeks through as it warms up a bit. OK.

(Bottle) Pours beautiful clear amber. Aroma of grass, sticky lemon/citrus and rasin. Tones of fruit and honey with small notes of dry grapes and white wine. Medium bitter, a bit spicy flavour with a light dry, syrapy, rasiny ending. Some citrus and grass. Medium body.

Bottle: Golden color, light white head and moderate lacing. The nose is lightly hoppy with some spicy esters and light pale malt notes along with those hops. Fresh flavor and a zesty hop finish, lighter in the malts and body than I would think for this steep of a beer. Nice though. Much better if left open to breath and warm up to something like cask levels.

This is quite nice. A great floral aroma, like an IPA. Taste seems like an over-hopped pilsener more than an ale to me, must be that funky English American Cascade hops. A nice drinkable beer and a good dry finish.

Bottle at the Rover in Göteborg with Gnoff. Oh boy was this a dissapointment after the fantastic "Very bad elf"! Smells like a bad Nordic lager. Quite weird taste, like summer ale more than a christmassy one. Quite ok beer though =)
