The head was average yet somewhat thin. The flavor . . . it reminded me of a watery wit a little more hop character. Ok, nothing great. SmellGood (319), Memphis, Tennessee, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 15, 2006 No aroma to speak of and a bit grainy when I finally worked myself up to try. Where are the hops they speak so highly of? DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 15, 2006 Bottle from Pat’s. Pours medium golden copper with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of grainy malt, some bittering hops, like a British ESB. The taste is malty, on the sweet side, with a good amount of bitter hops and some finishing tannic flavor. Creamy palate. shp555 (1691), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Dec 13, 2006 500 ml bottle from the Shelton Brothers Christmas gift pack, cellar temperature from a Samuel Smith pint glass. Very clear light gold-amber with lots of small bubbles in the body, smallish quick-dying off-white fizzy head, no lace.....really vague, murky, light malty aroma, faint citric hops if you really work at it but dullsville overall.....burnt caramelized toast is the first thing that occurs to me upon tasting, which isn’t a bad thing, but there’s not much else besides that, faint piney resin barely making an impact, light woody character towards the finish, a by-the-number ESA that’s smooth-drinking enough but completely and utterly boring, thin and watery. ford9719 (369), Vilseck, Germany
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 11, 2006 Bottle. Pours a golden color with white 1 finger head. Has a citrus armoa to it. Also has a slight taste of hops, I think it would be better with more hops. skibumphishead (180), USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 11/20 | Dec 10, 2006 neat bottle. the appearance looks like the bluebird bitter... the smell if full of funky hops in a british bitter... the extra alcohol% tastes great with this typical british bitter... the cascade hops are in there somewhere, but they are well hidden... this is a very drinkable winter ale. Most winter ales are tasty but not complex at all... this is a perfect example of this style. It is not worth the 5 dollars that I spent on it, but every beer is worth trying once.
