Fairly normal strong ale but they did bring up the level of hops in both the flavour and the aroma. Still a solid malt backbone though. Good. SamGamgee (1466), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 18, 2009 50cl bottle. Dark gold with a medium rocky head that leaves ample lace. Slightly damp hop aroma, with pear, melon rind and some orange-ade. Medium sweet, doughy malts with medium bitterness and clean, citrus and light leafy hop flavors. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. Decently malty and hoppy ale. Not really the fresh-hop punch that they may lead you to expect, but decent enough hops for an imported English ale. Faintly sweet, grainy malt aroma, lightly honeyish and fruity, with notes of citrus, pear and apple, overall effect is pretty slight, however. Clear medium golden color with a lasting, fine, white head. Flavor is predominantly fruity and very lightly bitter, with a touch of pineapple, grapefruit and doughy, lightly bready malts, and finishing with a touch of cedar, and a light dose of hop bitterness, earthiness and spiciness. Smooth and low in effervescence on the palate, almost juice-like in consistency, with a medium body. Just very mild character, drinks not at all like the hefty Winter Ale one might expect. Good aroma and taste of hops. Very smooth. Golden in color. What I look for in a beer. Great brew. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA

Flavor is like a winter IPA: hoppy and spicy, fruit and pine with a touch of honey and citrus zest. Enjoyable. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA
