Olde England meets the New World in this strong, warming golden ale, brewed by Peter Scholey. Master brewer for the late and much-lamented Brakspear Brewery of Henley-on-Thames, England, Peter started his own brewing operations in 2003. Bad Elf is a hop-lover’s dream, balancing a generous amount of famous English malt with an astounding 45 ounces of fresh hops – including American Cascade – per barrel.

500 mL Bottle-World Market Columbus, OH Very watery beer, tastes alright, but kind of weak. Good for one beer, but I would leave it at just one and try something else after I’m finished. Poured dark yellow with thin off white/white head. Smooth, nonbothersome aftertaste and decent amount of carbonation. Decent but you could do better.

Clear golden body with a thin off white head. Mild hoppy pine aroma with faint a faint maltiness. Modestly hoppy, mildly metallic flavor. Somewhat dry aftertaste with a bit of bitterness and caramel.

1pt .9fl ounce bottle received in a sampler pack for Christmas. Poured a yellow color with a lot of carbonation and a two finger width white frothy head. This beer really has a nice look to it after it is poured. The aroma is very faint with just a bit of hop character. The taste was actually pretty refreshing (which is a bit strange for a Winter beer) with a slight hint of hops. It had a bitter aftertaste. The lacing was pretty nice on the side of my glass and it had some nice carbonation to it. Overall a decent brew but it is not what I expect from a Winter Ale...

Pours orange with white head. Flavors of apples, pear, decent and warming. Can drink several. Nothing spectacular, but quite drinkable.

Botle: Poured a dark brown/orangeish color to it. Very little head and mild carboniation. Mild hop, syrup scent. Was expecting a big hop taste but its very subtle. A pretty good winter ale.

2008 Bottle. This is like a light IPA. Very light, yeasty aroma. Tastes very hoppy with a aftertaste of lemon peel and sugars. Palate is somewhat oily, so that it leaves an aftertaste for a while. I could actually see myself drinking this fairly often and am somewhat surprised to see it rated at 49%.

Split with Butters. Bottle. White head with a straw color. Malty body with a hoppy finish. Kind of thin body with a medium carbonation. Vanilla on the nose. Corn and vanilla in flavor.
