Olde England meets the New World in this strong, warming golden ale, brewed by Peter Scholey. Master brewer for the late and much-lamented Brakspear Brewery of Henley-on-Thames, England, Peter started his own brewing operations in 2003. Bad Elf is a hop-lover’s dream, balancing a generous amount of famous English malt with an astounding 45 ounces of fresh hops – including American Cascade – per barrel.

Clear golden body with a thin off white head. Mild hoppy pine aroma with faint a faint maltiness. Modestly hoppy, mildly metallic flavor. Somewhat dry aftertaste with a bit of bitterness and caramel.

On tap aat the Ginger Man (NYC). Pours clear amber approaching yellow and no head. Arouma is not very striking - citrus and fruits. Some sweet malts but very dry. Hops dominate the flavor. Smooth but not altogether memorable.

Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear BF 09. Haze amber. Definite Belgian yeast on the aroma, esters, fruity. Not sure the yeast goes with the English malts. It’s got a lot of yeast fruit. The yeast character completely dominates it. Drinkable though.

bottle, pours gold with a medium frothy white head. Sugary doughnut aroma. Flavor is nice with sweet pale malts and hay with some wheat notes and a sweet sugary finish.

Had this one bottled thanks to Slothgar!! Hazy, dark yellow pour with a thick, foamy eggshell white head, faint cereal and citrusy nose, light, with strawberry, nutmeg, and a bit of citrus hoppiness. Soft finish. Not bad, highly quaffable, and an interesting sample of the style.

Love it. Every nuance is understated to a point of being graceful. Smells of floral honey, lightly buttered toast and a little pepper. Flavor is very well balanced with a doughy malt in the front and a peppery hop finish. Beautiful light amber golden. Really nice suprise. Thank You Ridgeway. 2009 550 ml.

500 ml bottle poured a clear gold with a small diminishing ivory head. Aromas of butterscotch, citrus, earthiness, pine and light carmel. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, butterscotch, earthiness, pine and orange zest with a smooth lingering moderatly bitter finish.
