Commercial Description:
"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. All's well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesnt't it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place.

Bottle. Clear orange colour with a decent off white head. Fruity aroma with notes of citrus. Malty flavour with notes of alcohol. Nice beer.

Pours a clear golden hue with a light, slight off-white head. Aromas of flowers, hints of citrus, caramel and a little oat-like. Mouth feel is light to medium bodied with and overwhelming flavor of medicine. Almost scotch-like in the flavors with a hint and sweetness of oak. Honey, maple syrup without the bite of alcohol, but from the flavor. mmmmm.......... I don’t think I like it.

50 cl bottle. Pours a crystal clear amber gold with a moderate dense white head that lasted through two-thirds of the glass and left sheets of lace after each sip. As with the Very Bad Elf, this beer has no aroma whatsoever. Nothing. The flavor is sweet malt with some very light hops bitterness at the finish. I think I probably liked this beer the best of the five "Bad Elf" beers, which isn’t saying a whole lot since I gave this one a 3.1.

courtesy of oh6gdx - clear amber colour, little elusive foam; aroma of passion fruit and lichee with some notes of alcohol; oily and strong malt body; sweet and deeply bitter with a long malty, fruity and hoppy finish followed by a warming alcohol touch

For a barley wine, this brew was criminally light in colour, body and depth. the appearance was a clear orange with a thin, whispy white head. The nose had a malt presence less than desired, smelling mostly like honey, peach, vinous malt sweetness and a peppery, boozy overtone. There were signs of ethanol oxidation and that cardboard-like phenol (I’m forgeting the name). The flavour was lacking in complexity and the mouthfeel in body. Again, the sweetness was that of honey, not the desired chewy caramel. The hop bitterness was at a minimal. Swill as far as barley wines go.

Pours an clear light amber color with a small frothy off white head. Nose upfront is vinous with mild hop and malt characters. Initial taste is a thin body with honey sweetness and hops. Mid palate is mild spiciness finishing with some rather bland maltiness. Good head retention and lacing of the glass. Very easy drinking, flavor is a little low for a barely wine, very one dimensional. Not aweful but not supurb, the average rating fits it pretty well.

The color is a little lite in color for a barley wine. It is a clear orange amber and leaves some spiral laceing along the sides of the glass. The nose is a bit estery with hints of lemon, orange and some spice. There is also some hints of bitter hops. The flaovr is rather sweet and hoppy. You can really taste that bready malt followed by the ester fruit which fades. you can really taste the bready malt in the finish whis is extreamly full bodied.

Clear amber with a thin white head. Malty sweet, spicy, bubblegum smell. Heavy body. A malty sweet and spicy flavor is pretty mild for a barleywine. Well hidden alcohol. Very easy drinking brew. No doubt an english bw. 123106
