Commercial Description:
"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. All's well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesnt't it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place.

From 500 bottle this poured orange with big bubble head, hat left little lacing. Nose was of grapefruit and sweet caramel malts. Sticky mouthfeel. Flavor was sweet malts. Finish was sweet also. Drinkable, but way down the list of my barley wines.

A mediocore barley wine. To be expected from these "novelty" beers. This was a gift from a friend and I did enjoy drinking it and feeling the effects of it’s 10.5%. I do love good barley wines, but I would not buy this one. Will drink it again if given to me though!

[983-20071215] 500mL (Holiday Tasting 2007 @ Cole’s, Buffalo, NY). Boozy malt aroma has a slice of citrus. Clear, medium orange body with a quick off-white head. Bitter doughy malt flavour has a little spice. Rough medium body. Funny label story.

Bottle. Clear medium to light dark orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, fruity, moderate hoppy, orange, notes of alcohol, licorice. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. (241207)

Clear copper with a small white head. Nose is a bit harsh, with metallic bananas and some fusel alcohol. Rather sweet in flavor, with lots of banana. Quite bitter, a bit salty. Not criminally bad, perhaps, but hardly very good.

Warm maple brown color w/ smooth pour and light, thin creamy head. Mild aroma; full body flavor with hints of raisin, honey, black currents. Strongly alcoholic - more pleasant than expected but not as refined as could be

bottles both 2006 and 2007: both years pour a nice caramel brown with a white head that only last a few seconds. the 06 is just a tad bit darker. aroma is very sweet on both years with the 06 having less fresh fruit and more dark fruit aroma very sweet caramel malt in both years and just a touch of brown sugar in th e06. the flaovur were pretty identical both being sickly sweet with a very bitter aftertaste and finish. the palate is sticky. i did both years this way because they were so close to each other they came out to be the same score.
