Commercial Description:
"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. All's well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesnt't it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place.

In the bottle at the 2007 Crescent Moon Holiday Beer Tasting. Pours dark gold with a thin white head. A very clear beer. Deliciuos malty body with lots of caramel flavors. The ethanol burn is extreme. The hops are very smooth in this one. They seem evenly distributed. This might be my favorite English barleywine, but is certainly the best Ridgeway product I’ve had.

500ml bottle from Bevmo. It pours with not much luster, and not much of a head. Aroma is mildly honey like. Flavor, while it’s not a fantastic barleywine style, it’s not awful. Mildly sweet and mildly spicy. Maybe a little on the flat side. Worth trying but maybe not rebuying.

50cL bottle, 10.5% ABV. BarleyWine Style. Clear, medium golden color. Aroma of a fine malted Ale. Flavors are malt and big bitterness. Lots of Fizz.

500 ml bottle from Bevmo. This one pours a translucent amber-copper. The head is off white and sudsy leaving some lacing in the glass as it quickly recedes. The aroma ia medium in strength with caramel, raisins and alcohol. The flavor is remarkable in that the alcohol is immediately noticeable. Besides alcohol I taste raisins and apricots. The mouthfeel is smooth and full. The finish is long with more raisins. Overall; this would be a much better beer if the alcohol were well integrated. Not recommended.

Another bust from Ridgeway. Pours light brown with red highlights. Small white head with partial lacing. Vanilla, bubblegum, caramel, and peaches. Sickeningly sweet, spicy flavor, with molasses, dates, and something like a cigarette in the finish. This beer is a mess.

Dark coppery colored, little yellow head. Herbal and grassy, sweet, even perfumy aroma with spicy notes and slight bubblegummy tone. Medium to full bodied. Aroma was interesting, flavor is not so much. Medium alcohol comes through here, still some hopped and raisinny BW notes here, caramelly sweetness gets stronger in aftertaste. Alcohol lasts in aftertaste.

500 ml bottle, from BevMo LaJolla. Pours a clear bright orange amber with a medium sized whitish head. Aroma of dried fruits, apricot, prune, burnt toffee and spice, cardamom and dried cherry, orange peel, ginger and floral perfume. Flavor is kinda like a heavily fruity spice cake, sweetish, tartish and somewhat astringent, with soap and floral notes and nutmeg, alcohol is present but fairly well masked. Full body with a little, light carbonation.
