Small sized white foamy head, decent retention and lacing. Aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet orange liquor. A light to medium bodied Barley Wine. The malts are caramel and fruity. The hops are earthy and floral. There are lots of orange and orange rind flavors in this beer; they kind of dominate everything else. This beer is a weird blend between an English and American Style Barleywine, without doing either justice. It’s a little too hop forward for the English Style and a weird malt/hop combo for a American Barley Wine. One has to wonder if all these elf beers are more a marketing campaign than brewing beer. There are what 5 different ones now? What’s next, “North Pole Chainsaw Massacre Elf”? OK now back to the beer.. Decent balance. The alcohol hotness is very evident and kind of unpleasant. This elf needs to be locked away for a while. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slight bitter with a pronounced alcohol presence. Tmoney99 (4764), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 8, 2007 Bottled. Amber colour, mediumsized beige head, lacing. Aroma is grainy, nutty and alcoholic. Some mild spices too. Flavour is hay, spices, wood, some grapes, caramel malts and a sting of alcohol in the finish. This beer may need time, since it feels a bit boring as it is now. Clear amber color, small vanishing white head. Wood, metal, nuts and flowery, almost honeyish hops in the nose. Honeyish, decently bodied, liquerish brew. Simple flavour palette, but drinkable, quite flat mouthfeel. Green grapes, honey melon and touch of wood are mixed with alcoholic kick and harsh finish. Warming, but one-dimensional.
