Commercial Description:
"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. All's well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesnt't it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place.

Smells great - huge whiff of banana and bubblegum as soon as you crack open the bottle, and a touch of pine when you pour it. Flavor, though, is a bit boozy. And by "a bit boozy", I mean "very, very boozy". As it warms, it drys out a bit, and becomes more drinkable.

Pours a surprisingly clear orange soda color with a medium-sized ivory head that reduces quickly to a film. Aroma was disappointing too: Of corn and banana in a malt liquor sort of way. Also dusty aroma. Banana reappears in the flavor, and that is the only good thing. Sorry, I’m really not trying to be an asshole here, but this flavor is really malt-liquor-ish. And by malt liquor, I mean cheap American wino juice for sub-$2 a 40 OTD malt liquor. Much corn and rubbing alcohol. The smooth taste isn’t fooling anyone here. Watery, thin palate, just like Steel Reserve that’s been out for an hour. Call me a hater, whatever; this stuff is very low quality to say the least. I was really expecting to like this one. Borderline drain pour, however.

Why am I doing this to myself? 500mL bottle from Bevmo for $6-7. A little pricey, but it’s 10.5%. I poured it strong and cold, and ended up with a lingering, but small white small-bubble head. The taste is a little bit of booze and long boil hop bitterness. A little medical. Hop aroma is muted. Dry, which almost makes a little sourness present itself. Not good, but at least I get another >10% rating.

500 ml bottle at the Bayou. Pours a pale amber color with a medium white head. The aroma is odd; spicy alcohol and pears. A sweet caramel flavor, rich alcohol/chemical-like flavors, some light fruit. Not too bad. Pretty drinkable despite the ABV.

Pours golden with a thick off-white head. Very nice lacing on the head. Aroma is of alcohol and bananas. Taste is of bananas and alcohol as well. After taste is a bitter alcohol taste. Not bad. Not great but not horrrible.

Orange pour with white watery head without much lace. Aroma is medium peach like fruit. Flavor is a bit like medicine but fruity with a pretty nice abv warmth. Medium bodied with pretty nice light carbonation, but a hint of wateriness. A very drinkable beer.

Rich gold pour. Caramel and banana are the main players in the aroma. Caramel, banana, apple and light hop prick on the tongue.

6th July 2008. What’s criminal about this is I had to get one from USA!! Odd nose of wet dog that doesn’t carry over to the taste. Thinnish palate, champagne crispness. Touches of brandy and rich malt and some banana in the finish. Light on it’s feet considering it’s abv.
