zach8270 (1404), Henrietta, New York, USA Mar 20, 2008 (bottle - 500 ml) Clear amber pour with not much of a head. Aroma is very strong. Lots of alcohol, wine, malts, and some paint thinner. Very sweet and malty at the beginning, giving way to a very cloying bubblegum middle and a slightly bitter finish of malts and alcohol that disappears quickly. Alcohol is very apparent. Not a good barley wine.
omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 18, 2008 Bottled, thanks oh6gdx! Clear amber, airy head. Fruity and fatty. Very sweet with estery alcohol. Like peach brandy with corn flakes. Not much in the way of hops, ill-structured malt and massive amounts of boozy alcohol. Top fermented malt liquor! GregClow (2318), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 20, 2008 Bottle that I got from blankboy (I think). Golden-orange with a very slight haze and a small white head. Aroma is interesting, a but perfumey as the rater before me notes, but also some orange candy and caramel in there. Medium bodied. Flavour is decent, but fairly subdued and somewhat nondescript - sweet off the top, with some sugar and fruit, and a moderately hopped finish. Certainly hides that 10.5%. It’s better than some of the ratings here suggest, but still not a first rate barley wine. Papsoe (9980), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 20, 2008 (Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear pale amber golden with an off-white head. Spicy aroma with nuts and alcohol. Quite full-bodied with perfumy accents - lavender soap? Caramellish with a ton of malt while the finish is bitter with quite some alcohol showing. 250308 Enjoyit (1087), Vadum, Denmark Jul 3, 2008 Clear golden of color with a beige head. An aroma with sweet malt and caramel. A flavor with sweet malt, toffee, malty bitterness. A very nice english barley wine!! DuffMan (1915), Calgary, Alberta, Canada May 31, 2008 Hazy orange amber, short-lived head. Sweet boozy aroma and palate. Grainy, with strong orange brandy and floral hop notes. Harsh finish with a little hot alcohol.
