maeib (4012), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Dec 11, 2007 Bottled. A black beer with a decent off-white head. Sweet milky chocolate and licquorice in the silky inviting aroma, The taste has good roasty malts around a smooth chocolatey body. Nice alcohol hit. Good licquorice and fossil fuel flavours. Very smooth and drinkable. Some milikiness also. Very nice indeed.
Jonte (403), Gothenburg, Sweden Sep 28, 2008 Updated: Oct 2, 2008On-tap at The Rover, Gothenburg. Dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma and taste of sweet malt, mild roastiness, mild coffee, sweet chocolate, spicy hops, grain, dark berries and a bit of alcohol. Different and more sweet than american imperial stouts. TEJA (144), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 24, 2008 Bottle at Stockholm beer festival. Thinn foam over a half dark stout. Aroma of caramell and licorice. Some sweetness combined with a good bitterness bite. thegreenrooster (1514), St.louis, Missouri, USA Sep 20, 2008 Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt with a nice hoppyness. Flavor is very sweet with some vanilla and coffee. Finish is again very sweet and a small amount of bitterness. Almost a sweet stout and just heavy enough to make this an ok stout. NachlamSie (1387), Tennessee, USA Sep 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours a super deep ruby hue which looks near black in the modeate lighting. It sports a vinous, red wine nose with hints of licorice, vanilla, and mild coffee. The palate is pleasingly creamy. I get more of this red wine in the flavor along with licorice, taffee, earth, and coffee. The finish on this one reminds me of the sweetness found in Lion Stout. I liked Ridgeway’s attempt at the style quite well. It is certainly a different approach to stouts than my American-leaning palate is accustomed to. KimJohansen (4299), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 9, 2008 Black with tiny beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt and caramel. Flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and coffee notes. Ends sweet.
