Pours black with a med. brown head. Not opaque but close. The aroma is heavily toffee with a fair amount of caramel. No cofffe and only very light chocolate. Body is med. with low CO2. The flavors are med. sweet, No burnt chracters, just melanoidins. Water is mod. high in CO3 and slightly salty. The finish shows only sligh bitterness. I have a feeling a fair amount of sugar was added to boost alc. but not body, which is achieved at the cost of ratings on this and the other site. Doesn’t bother me, as it is very well balanced, but it will bother the EXTREME beer drinker.

Dec 23, 2009 Bottle - pours a light black with a foamy tan head. Aromas are earthy with roasted coffee, chocolate and licorice along with a hint of caramel. Alcohol was very present . Flavors are molasses, chocolate and coffee malts. Shared with my wife since she loved porters and stouts - her first comment was "this isn’t nearly as good as the one’s you usually share with me" - and she was right. Definitely just a novelty beer along with the "Elf" series.....

Dec 20, 2009 Nice cinnamon, brown sugar, and fig aroma. Clear ruby brown, thin beige head, some lacing. Well balanced coffee and blackberry flavor, alcohol evident. Charcoal, bark, and grass finish.

Dec 19, 2009 On tap at City Beer Store in SF. Pours dark brown with a one-finger beige head. Aroma is caramel, spice, chocolate, and mild roast. Flavor is pretty nice with caramel malt, toffee, a little milk chocolate, cola, roasted malt, and some holiday spices. Medium body with a fairly smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Good stuff overall, a bit underrated.

Dec 18, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown pour with a ruby tinge and medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate and burned nuts. Medium to thin body with the taste of burned nuts, chocolate and roasted malt with a metallic hint. Decent but not as dry or sweet as I would have expected.

Dec 17, 2009 Pours a clear, dark (but still translucent) brown with little head. Smells delicious. Malty nose, with a nutty, roasty character and a bit of sweet molasses. Mouthfeel is a bit watery with weak, soda-like carbonation. Flavor is significantly "beer" (is that yeast?), but sweet like molasses with coffee bitterness and a hint of legumes. Not entirely impressive, but drinkable.

Dec 17, 2009 Had on tap at Beachwood BBQ, Seal Beach. Pours dark brown/black with slight tan head and little carbonation. Slight lacing and aroma of chocolate and malts. Was expecting more chocolate flavor from the description, but just got slight chocolate taste, more roasted malts and spices with a hint of sweetness. Finishes nicely, but overall, not the best holiday stout I’ve had by a long shot. Probably worth a try, but there’s better options out there.

Dec 16, 2009 Pours cola brown color with tan head. Aromas of toasted malts and some fruitiness. Lightly roasted malt flavor with some licorice. Meduim body with moderate carbonation.
