johndoughty (1681), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Dec 27, 2007 Bottle. Very clear amber appearance. Full bodied with an unusual very distinctive spicy flavor’s fruitiness as well.It lacks the overpowering alcohol presence that beers of this strength usually have and is all the better for this. Excellent and highly recommended. Uriel (141), San Jose, California, USA Mar 18, 2008 Slightly darker (than bad elf) medium gold color, with a medium creamy head. Smells like a hefe. Smooth and citrusy. Orange blossom honey aroma. Warm and spicy, without the harsh bite of Bad Elf. Warm without being sticky. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Dec 22, 2004 Draft glass at The Map Room in Chicago. Very clear bronze with a bit of head...deep malty/woody nose with perhaps a hint of banana...hugely malty, caramel-sweet with a touch of mint...light fruit-juicy mouthfeel, intense flavors, hints of vanilla and pineapple late; rather like a doppelbock with less heft. Looks like I’m the odd one out here, but it also seems that the better ratings are from draft samples. More for me! jgentgesdo (545), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jan 14, 2007 Pours light golden with an off-white head that laces well. Nose is floral/grapefruit hops. The flavor is revelatory-spicy Fuggles that must have been very fresh meld with a honeyed, biscuity malt and segue into a bittersweet hops finish that is outstanding. Yum yum. pobenohne (504), Northern Liberties, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 2, 2004 Draft at the Old Bay (last pint in the keg; barback hooked it up wrong and most of the brew ran all over the beer cellar). Clear, deep golden ale, amazingly full flavored: big caramel taste, great hop bite, dry finish. A delight
