Maria (3788), Thisted, Denmark May 11, 2008 Bottle at Löwenbräu Buttenheim as Löwenbräu Buttenheim Weissbier Dunkel. Dark brown and hazy with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has notes of clove and whet, not so much banana. The flavour has sweetness, notes of cloves, wheat, caramel and little banana, and the flavour ends on a note of cloves. It’s nice and has a lot more personality than most dunkel weizen’s.
fonefan (4045), Ulfborg, Denmark Nov 3, 2007 Bottle as "Löwenbräu Buttenheim Dunkelweizen". Hazy light to medium amber / brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, wheat, light banana. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. (201007) omhper (10140), Stockholm, Sweden May 22, 2007 Bottled at Zauberberg zum Gerch, Hof, Bavaria (as Löwenbräu Buttenheim Dunkelweizen). Cloudy very dark brown. Aroma of toffee, banana and stale butter. Sweet with rounded mouthfeel, somewhat metallic. Short finish. Disappointing in that I’ve had a couple of Löwenbräu Buttenheim beers in my pre-Ratebeer days that I absolutely loved. jbrus (4024), Delft, Netherlands Apr 14, 2007 Bottled as Lowen Buttenheim Dunkles Hefeweizen. Sweet banana aroma. Very dark brown color, beige head, good lace. Light sweet, light bitter, some banana but mainly can sugar. MoritzF (3638), Ruhrpott, Germany Dec 13, 2006 (bottle, as Altbayrisches Export-Weizen, with thanks to DerDoppelbock!) Hazy , dark amber to brown colour with a huge foamy off-white head. Dusty, slightly sweet, slightly wheaty aroma with notes of banana, clovy phenols and a faint touch of caramel. Light-sweet, minimal-sour flavour, light bodied with a crispy carbonation. Wheaty and fruity taste, not very “Dunkel”; moderately dry and slim fruity finish. Unspectacular and probably coloured.
