Commercial Description:
Dried poblano peppers, chocolate malt, and lots and lots of Dutch chocolate make this a porter to remember.

MiBG Summer Fest 2009, Friday Session: Deep reddish brown hue with a lasting frothy head. The aroma has notes of powered chocolate and coffee, grassy hops, very light spice, sassafras, wheat and nuts. The taste is very straight forward with walnut and chocolate with very minimal spice. Some smoke, coffee and hop notes upon the finish. The mouth feel is lively and sharp. Overall a disappointing offering, I was looking forward to trying this.

Sampled at the MBGF. Pours coffee black with a trim tan head. Smells of dark cocoa and assorted peppers. Tastes much more of powered cocoa in flavor than chili, which I found dissapointing, but still a nice porter. Reminds me a lot of Four Peaks Chingron.

Tap at MBG Summer Festival. Poured black with a light brown head. Aroma consisted of sweet chocolate with a mocha note as well, did not pick up much of a chili aroma. Flavor definitely brought out the dutch chocolate but again the chili flavor was lacking. Not bad, but would like to see the chili incorporated more.

On tap at the brewery. Opaque black with burnt tan head. Aroma is dry bakers chocolate upfront with definite chili spice, nice and appealing. Nice flavor of dry chocolate with good amount of spiciness in the flavor as well as across the tongue, a tad bit smokey, real nice. Medium body with nice carbonation and a good amount of spice, not off-putting. Really nice spice to beer balance, really well done. One of the better beers at the brewery.

Draft sample at Right Brain. Poured clear dark brown color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate spicy roasted chocolate malty aroma. Medium body with a dry smooth texture. Medium roasted dark chocolate flavor with medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer.
