I was quite pleased with this beer :) It poured a really nice dark brown with a thick creamy dark tan head. It had some nice aromatic notes to it, which surprised me considering it was a sample pour at a festival (and I have come to not expect much of an aroma with these). It smelled of oranges and chocolate, nice. It had a nice dark chocolate flavor, with a bit of a bitter after note, and a hint of oranges as well, but not artificial at all. Very good.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Growler courtesy of GoT. Pours a light brown color with a small, foamy tan head that shows good retention leaving plenty of lace behind. The aroma shows cocoa, roasted malts, and some sweet orange peels. The aroma is pretty dry and roasty. The flavor follows with the roasty cocoa and caramel malt base with the sweet orange peel and dry yeast. The chocolate and orange and a nice little combo. Medium bodied, smooth and fairly easy to drink with subtle carbonation and a dry, roasted cocoa finish. This is a uinque blend of flavors with the orange and chocolate. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 3, 2009 Growler, courtesy GoT. Pours a slightly hazy, chestnut brown color with a small, foamy, tan head. Lasting a good while, the head leaves a good amount of spotty lacing behind. The aroma shows notes of brown sugar and light cocoa roast, with hints of gingersnap cookies and candied orange peel. There’s a touch dry, lactic yeast going on that lends a milky sort of feel. Flavors are the same, lightly roasty and lactic, cocoa-caramel driven, with bright orange peel sweetness. I happen to think citrus rind and chocolate work well together, so this one suits me nicely. Medium bodied and smooth, the moderate carbonation keeps it even keeled and easy drinking. It’s a nice change-of-pace stout. daknole (2941), Plantation, Florida, USA

Good retention. Smells Dunkelweizen-like. I am unable to pick out any orange component at all. Medium-bodied and fizzy. Too sweet and grainy. Not really dark enough for a stout. Spicy, like a Dunkelweizen. Finishes sweet, but also bland. Growler shared by GoT and northernbrews! punkrkr27 (620), Berkley, Michigan, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 7, 2009 On tap at the brewery. Dark, almost opaque brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is sweet orange with chocolate, so good. Flavor is like a medium-sweet chocolate covered orange, a little bitter chocolate, nice. Medium to light body with light carbonation. Exactly like those chocolate oranges, nice.
