A little on the thin side with a nice strong bourbon and caramel nose. Flavor has a little kick of hops in there with the malts and bourbon. Fairly good. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 14, 2009 On tap @ brewery. Dark brown, almost black in color, thin white head. Taste initially has too much of a caramel component, but as it warms, I don’t mind as much., and it integrates well into the stout flavors nicely. The aroma is sweet and oaky with vanilla. A nice moderate ABV BA beer. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2009 on tap at MSBF. Opaque black with medium tan head. Aroma is dry roast and some spice, light bourbon. Flavor is off dry roast, nice vanilla, cherry, well balanced barrel to stout, light alc, pretty tasty. Medium body, well carbonated. Really nice, a little lighter in body than but well balanced. greco (41), Zeeland, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Nice dark, rich color. Tan, foamy head that lingers as it should. The aroma is all bourbon all the time. Unfortunately, so is the flavor. I tend to prefer bourbon stouts where the bourbon is a little more subtle so in my opinion this could use a little blending to get a little more roasty and chocolate flavors they are going for. Mouthfeel lacks a little (a tad thin for a stout of this magnitude). Overall I would recommend it but think it can be improved with some blending. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 5, 2009 On tap. Poured nearly black with a medium tan colored head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, coffee, oak. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, bourbon, light oak. Palate is medium to full bodied, mild carbonation, finished bittersweet. Pretty good. Just a little on the thin side, which keeps it from being excellent. Tmoney99 (4765), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 6, 2008 Draft sample at brewpub. Poured black color with an average creamy brown head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy chocolate and woody bourbon aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium to heavy bittersweet bourbon flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer. nbutler11 (766), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 2, 2008 When I think back to the ’08 MIBGF, this is the beer that I wish I would have spent half of my chips drinking -- it was that good. Although I didn’t take notes on each beer, this was better than anything I had at the fest, even at Founders and Kuhnenn. The Woodford Reserve barrels help distinguish this beer’s taste while maintaining the balance of it’s flavors.
