Commercial Description:
American cream ale brewed with rice, malted barley, and Japanese wasabi. Pair it with sushi (duh) or grilled smoked salmon. Don’t let the name fool you. This beer is NOT hot on the tongue.

Growler, courtesy Cheeseman and Northernbrews. Pours a clear golden yellow color topped by a thin, off white head that leaves spots of lacing. The aroma shows notes of green peas, wassabi, and some grainy malts. The flavor follows suit with the peas and grainy malts to go with some wassabi and grassy hop bitterness on the backend. Light bodied and pretty watery with just a weird wassabi pea flavor and aftertaste. This is a weird brew for sure and just not my thing.

Fuck you cheese. Goddamn this was pretty odd and mostly foul. Smells and tasted lke those wasabi peas and a macro lager. Worth a try. Once. And ONLY once. Bleh.

Growler October ’09 O-Town Throwdown, cheers to Cheeseman. Pours golden, white head. Aroma and flavor, not as harsh as I was expecting, the wasabi is noticeable but not as powerful in mustard seeds as I had anticipated. Overall mouthfeel and aroma are of wasabi seeds, lightly spicy, with lingering pale malts. Feels like without the wasabi this beer would be rather insignificant.

Growler… October ’09 O-Town Throwdown... Clear, light yellow beer with a small, fizzy, white head. Smells like a combination of wasabi paste and American light lager. Light-bodied with nearly expired carbonation. Tastes like it smells, but is perfectly balanced and moderately spicy. Finishes dry. About what I expected. Creative concept... doesn’t really work for me, but creative concept. Growler courtesy of TheCheeseMan and northernbrews!

Growler, courtesy Cheeseman. Hazy dark gold or light brown color, with a small white head. Smells like vegetables. Peas, green beans, and various other vegetables I grew up hating gave me flashbacks of hiding them underneath my mashed potatoes at the dinner table as a kid. The flavor gave me a little gag reflex as it tastes like peas, and I hate peas. Really couldnt finish it and had to pour most of it out. It finished horribly, and I had to get the taste out of my tongue right away. There really wasnt much wasabi to it, if it had been hot, then it might have been tolerable, but this just seems like somebody trying to do something wierd just to do it. Im sure somebody could make a beer that tastes like spinach and beets....but why do it?

Growler, courtesy Cheeseman and Northernbrews. The pour yields a clear, medium-golden tinted body with a thin, wispy, off-white head. Minimal, spotty lacing dots the glass. The aroma is even stranger than the beer’s name would indicate, resembling that of mashed English peas with hints of horseradish, light wasabi, and soft grain malts. Flavors again show that puree of pea type profile, with a cereal grain malt base and stauncher than expected grassy hops. The wasabi really is subtle, seemingly combining with the malt to make the strange pea element. Light bodied, perhaps even a little watery, the palate doesn’t do much to save this weird brew. Not my thing.

Courtesy ChzMan. Clear gold. White carbonation. Wasabi peas aroma. Flavor adds some vegetal elements and mild sweetness. The smell makes me want some nostril clearing bite, but none of that is here. Easy drinkin golden ale.
