What there is leaves an sparse, oily lacing. The aromas are really thick and malty with lots of spicey, peppery notes, some herbal hop undertones in there and a great toasted malt character. Lots of fruit and strong caramel notes before giving way to a dry roasted malt and grassy hop bitterness. There’s a lasting biscuity aftertaste at the front of the tongue along with the hop bite. Despite the initial carbonation, this doesn’t come through too strong on the palate. It’s medium in body and the mouthfeel is quite soft, with a touch of freshness from the carbonation.

A good old fashioned premium bitter of a decent strength. Very drinkable and very satisfying. Some pasteurised notes, and annoying carbonation, but overall a very tasty brew. Lingering dark tang on the tongue. BeerChaser0078 (374), Melbourne, Australia

Slightly hazy amber pour with a short, creamy off-white head that lasts a little while. Some hops on the nose as well as notes of caramel, malt, apples and sultanas. Flavour is more malty but does have a little fruit as well; notes of apple, pear, orange and caramel are all noticeable. Mouthfeel is light, bordering on watery, with minimal carbonation and a medium to long sweet finish. Nice English bitter but not outstanding. scotty (834), Scotland

Slight but prickly carbonation. Strong aroma of fruit (orange and stewed apple), caramel and sweet malt continues into the powerful yet smooth and relaxing flavour. There is the occassional tang of metallics from the pasteurisation, but it’s hidden better than in most pasteurised beers. I did worry for a while it was going to leave a too-sticky finish but no - a subtle earth-and-straw hop bitterness kicks in at just the right moment to save the day. A really, really good beer, which stops just short of true excellence because of the metals and fizz. Imagine how good this could be if they tried bottle-conditioning it... davegore (202), liverpool, Merseyside, England
