Malty aroma with outlying dusted cider wood. Interesting malted complexity in aroma and flavor. Warming. Some nuttiness and brown sugar on the palate with hints of wood and cider. Dusty, old-barrel-aged quality. Candi caramel on the finish too. A sturdy wintere brew. Well-made, distinctly-flavored offering. JPDIPSO (4912), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 2, 2009 Lightly hazed copper color with only a thin lid of off-white bubbles. Savory malt, caramel, toffee and dark maple syrup and buckwheat pancake aromas. Deep malt scents with additional peat and iodine. Just too much candy in the nose for me. Sweet flavors from the start. Brown sugar and light candied fruit attack. Finish has a bit of herbal hops and oak. I can see this being a traditional ale, sweet and high in alcohol. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 23, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a small, rocky, white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee, nutty), average hop (flowers, grass), average yeast (earth, broth) with notes of date, apple, and cola. Medium bodied, slick texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. lithy (1725), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 9, 2009 Dark dunkel like burnt orange-brown with a finger of dirty white head. Some caramel aroma, dark fruits, and alcohol. Taste is more caramels, light raisins, too much alcohol. Butters (1652), Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 30, 2009 Pours a murky amber brown with ring of small white head and petri dish suds. Nose is typical of these strong lithuanian beers - banana, vanilla, but this dark version also has raisins. Very sweet plum, caramel flavors, with a distinct yeastiness and alcohol presence, though not hot. Pleasant warming sensation. I bet this would score much higher by most people if done in a blind tasting. SSSteve (2073), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 12, 2008 Pours amber with a white head. Smells of caramel and very yeasty. Tastes overly sweet with a lot of sugary undertones. Mouthfeel is thick with a finish that reminds me a bit of malt liquor. Not all that exciting. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 1, 2007 Nose of caramel and flowers, alcohol and a hint of brandy, some yeast. Pours a cloudy amber honey. The mostly diminishing off white frothy head leaves no lace. The brew is sweet through and through. Warmth in the middle, sweet grain at the finish. If I was blindfolded I might think this was a dunkel. The medium creamy body is soft, the finish feels slightly alcoholic.
