19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 3, 2007 Updated: Aug 21, 2007Originally reviewed back on 12/20/04. Received 3 score. Added to my RB list to check "New Mexico" as a beer state consumed. The "best" of the trio of NM beers I traded for. And this is no prize. Pours a dirty brown. Aromas try to give off some nut and dark dessert breads, but it doesn’t amplify. Thin body and flavors that are weak and struggling. Average at best.
krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA Jun 12, 2006 it’s fun to go out on the road and pick up new beers, but the truth is, too often we find dwarfish little underachievers that scarcely rate three lines of commentary. this one is as brown as bran flakes, and about as interesting. a reasonable head puffed for show and then staked out a modest stronghold around the edge of the glass. besides some oxidation i gathered olfactory evidence of dunkel-like sweet and well-browned malts, which could generously be likened to a whole wheat pancake with a bit of maple, and a bit of baked carrot. indeed it is sweet tasting, with dates and toast, watery feel, and a not quite a medium body fullness of flavor. very negligible hops allow the sugar water effect to linger which is not the best way to finish. could be considered a reasonable quencher down in arizona, particularly given that hellacious summer climate they endure. if you’re a gila monster toasting in that desert inferno, you’d probably love a cool dish of elfego "bock". any gila monsters listening out there? i got a half bottle of elfego right here with your name on it! eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA May 31, 2006 I too was disappointed by this one. I don’t know if it was the bock title or not, but this wasn’t anything German. Somewhat of a burnt and yeasty aroma and flavor. Hops were noticeable and didn’t seem to match the beer. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 18, 2006 Redddish copper brown with a creamy off-white head. Rather bizarre aroma of cocoa, berries and olive juice. In mouth, rather thin beer with sweet malt, light acidic points, and no hops. Rather boring. Cant remember where I got this bottle, maybe from Degarth? RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Jan 3, 2006 This beer produces an aroma tha resembles burnt semi-sweet chocolate and raisins. As far as looks go, this beer could pass for a glass of tea. It is flat and watery and only produces a taste of crackers in the aftertaste. MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA Oct 20, 2005 Bought this bottle on a trip to New Mexico. Pours with a spare tan head adn a clear mahogany body. Aroma is light but has wet cardboard and malt. This is thin and watery with very little carbonation. Not a bad beer at all. I’m too hungover to type anymore than that. sloth (1658), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Sep 18, 2005 Pours a small tan head that settles down quickly. Brown color, light red hue, clarity is very good. Faint malt nose, grainy notes. Body is light, lightly carbonated, watery. Lightly sweet malt flavors, caramel and buttery notes with a bit of chalkiness in the finish. Finish is almost dry. Degarth Delivered this bottle, Thanks man! rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 4, 2005 Thanks Tim. Toffee/caramel nose - slightly earthy with a hint of hops. Copper body, fluffy off white head that fades quickly. Flavor is sweet caramel malt - more of a brown ale than a bock. A bit of maple in the finish.
