Commercial Description:
Outlaw Lager is a full-bodied copper lager. This hoppy brew is one of the last remaining examples of America's only indigenous beer style. This "bastard lager" is fermented at ale temperatures producing esters that add complexity to its clean finish.

Good malty drink. It pours from the bottle a deep amber color with barely any lacing, let alone a head. Nice roasted malt aroma with a touch of grassiness. Very smooth mouthfeel, but perhaps a bit watery. Tastes of roasted malts, mildly sweet, with a subtle hop balance. Very clean finish.

Deep gold hue. Rocky, lasting head. Easy-to-quaff texture, and it was actually fuller bodied than I expected. Rich grains, nuts, tobacco, light wood and subtly sweet honey. A grassy-sour bitterness kind of ruined the show a bit. Individually, there seemed to be some nice elements. But collectively, they didn’t really seem to go together so well.

My favorite beer from Rio Grande. Nice malty characteristics, grainy, a little nutty, with the right balance of hops. A good California Common and one of the better bottled beers from New Mexico. Rio Grande is still around. The beer is produced by Sierra Blanca Brewing company now and has changed slightly since the buyout happened. Sierra Blanca produces 4 Rio Grande beers for distribution: Outlaw Lager, Desert Pils, Pancho Verde Green Chile, and IPA.

Nice amber color but an odd aroma - a cross between butterscotch and something? Thanks to Vince and Kathy for my gift to beer of the month club - this is one of the monthly selections and I’m looking forward to the next ones.

Copper color with a nice medium-sized head that diminished slowly but not completely. Aroma of caramel malts and roasted corn. Hints of tobacco and chalkiness in the flavor.

Thanks to Degarth for giving me this beer a long F-ing time ago!

Beer pours a fluffy ivory head and an amber body. The aroma is sweet and underdeveloped. Flavor brings a slight nuttiness, some sweet roasted grains, and a hint of molasses. The palate is super thin and the beer is forgettable, however, I would definitely not pass if it were offered once again… probably because I would have forgotten about its few characteristics.
