Commercial Description:
Pancho Verde Chile Cerveza is a flavorful pilsner beer with exotic New Mexico green chili added. Green chili is a roasted, edible pepper known as much for its wonderfully unique flavor and aroma as for its subtle, spicy heat. We have balanced the aroma, flavor and heat in order to create an exceptionally drinkable and appealing beer that avoids the one-dimensional HOT! HOT! HOT! character of other chili beers.

Aroma is a rich green chili. An expert could tell you where and the day it was picked it’s so bright and detailed. Headless clear golden SPN 2.7 or so. Light wheatish flavors, a bit piquant, light sweet malt, honts of honey. Delish.

I really enjoy spicy foods and chiles so my rating may reflect that. Hazy yellow color with a thin white head. Fresh sliced pepper in the aroma. Light pepper flavor and slightly hot.

Being from Arizona, where ’Everything is available with ’Salza’, ’Chilies’ are a mainstay of many meals, this should be a ’Hoot’. Clear gold in color, minimal white head some lace. Nose, the ’archetypal green chili’ aroma. Front is slightly sweet, the top thin, the finish is dry, lightly acidic, some hops, ’Peppery’, spicy, sure the hell different. Actually drinkable, unlike the the Arizona version Ed’s Chili Beer, can’t remember if I rated it here, but will pick up a bottle and compare.

Had this beer at GABF on 10/2/1999. Aroma has a faint pepper scent. Color is a light gold with good carbonation and head. Taste is light with a nice chile flavor and a good spicy bite in the after taste. This is a very good Chile Beer.

A 12-oz bottle shared by BDR. Pours a clear straw blonde brew with a fast dissolving white head that dissipates clean with a very thin bubble ring. Aroma of chili powder, some white salt, and bread malt. Taste is mostly chili pepper, light bodied with some red bell pepper and green vegetables. Finish has a light chili spice aftertaste that is not too strong. I would take the beer with a Mexican Tex/Mex dinner over the macro version beers.

6-pack in Albuquerque. Pours a clear pale straw color with no head. Slight green chile aroma. Medium body, mild green chile flavor dominates the pale malt flavors and carries well into the finish. Late, slight chile heat. Could go well with with some assertive foods.

Appearance: Pours a clear, pale yellow body with no head to speak of. Smell: Roasted chili pepper, baby! Taste: Pale maltiness with no apparent sweetness to obstruct the chili peppers delivering a roasty, vegetal taste and what could be considered a restrained bitterness. Same until the finish. Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Almost no carbonation. Drinkability: It’s no Cave Creek Chili Beer and that’s definitely a good thing.

Ok, this was for me an oddly dichotomous beer. On the one hand, I could tell there was some quality here. The actual beer underneath the chile would have been boring. Not much body or flavor, but the chile flavor is legit and actually meshes well with the beer. Still something about it doesn't sit well with me and I couldn't finish it.
