unclemike (380), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Mar 23, 2008 64oz growler. Poured a brown color. Haed a light tan. left a slight lacing when poured. taste of caramel. Graet beer from this brewery. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA Aug 19, 2007 From the tap, this 22 ounce "Big Ass Beer" (as they like to call it) was clear and dark mahogany brown in color with a modest sized smooth off-white head that lasted nicely and left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was of fairly straight forward for the style with rich notes of caramel and nutty malt. There is almost no discernable presence of hop aromas present. The body was moderately full with soft carbonation and a smooth, caressing texture. The flavor starts out lightly sweet and gradually shifts to a light pleasant bitterness as it matures on the palate through the moderately long finish. weeare138 (928), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 25, 2006 Appears a deep mahogany with a small off white head that quickly fades out into a collar. Spotty streaks of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of yeasty, fruity esters with some caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, cocoa, and light French Roast coffee. Smells deliciously of either an English Ale yeast, or a West Coast Ale yeast. Fermentation temp must’ve been right on b/c the esters are hitting me just the way that I would expect.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a mellowed fruity sweetness to start and a yeasty/hoppy bitterness.
Mouthfeel is a subtle balance of sweet and bitter with doughy yeastiness. hopdog (4657), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 25, 2006 Sampled from growler courtesy of weeare138 (thanks!). Poured a darker mahogany color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of coffee, light chocolate, smoke, and berries. Tastes of coffee, roast, chocolate, and caramel. Thinner body. egajdzis (3022), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 24, 2006 Poured a mahogany color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, smoke, caramel malts, and some funky fruits. Taste of more caramel, roast, cocoa, light citrus fruits, and finishing with a low-to-moderate bitterness.
