corby112 (677), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 25, 2009 Pours a dark amber/ chestnut brown color with ruby edges and a thin head that quickly fades. Sweet malty aroma with subtle spiciness and dark fruit. Nice malty character with dark cherry flavor as well as some peppery spice, hazelnu and some other dark fruit. Nicely balanced. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Jul 18, 2009 Pours copper with an off white head. Smells of residual candi sugar, some spice, some dryness. Tastes sweet and spicy with some dryness on the finish. GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 4, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of mhewes poured into a snifter.
Pours a deep brown that shows clear bronze when held up to light. There’s a big creamy off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a wispy cap and bits of lacing.
The aroma is very sweet with some caramel malts and plenty of dark fruits and some Belgian yeast aromas. There is a hint of spiciness in the nose but the sweetness is prominent.
The taste is also extremely sweet, with candi sugar and Belgian yeast dominating. There are some dark fruits and a little bit of spice in the finish.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low, soft carbonation. It’s sticky sweet on the palate.
This is a decent beer but the overwhelming sweetness makes it a little tough to drink the entire bottle. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Jun 29, 2009 Bottle. This beer has a dark pour and is great cold. Caramel and alcohol flavors match well. However this beer has been worse each time i try it:-(. (Back logged rating) matthasson (59), Pennsylvania, USA Jun 9, 2009 Deep reddish brown appearance. Tastes somewhat sweet upfront with dominant flavors of caramel and roasted malt. There is also a touch of spicy yeast flavor mixing with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Has some comforting qualities making for an enjoyable winter brew.
Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 5, 2009 Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with some dominating Belgian style malt. Taste is also a nice enough mix between some candi sugar and nice Belgian malt with some fruity ester and a lightly spicy yeast. Body is not as full as I would have liked it with some good carbonation and no presence of alcohol. Not bad but makes me want to learn more from this brewery. MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 31, 2009 Bottle thanks to Cletus! Hazy red and nut brown body with a small, bubbly, long-lasting white head. Nose of bubblegum, burnt toast, some caramel malt, a little yeast. Yeasty, sugary flavor, way too sweet and simple. Fizzy, moderate body with a watery finish. Not very impressive.
dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA May 20, 2009 Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing. Pours a clear dark reddish-brown with an off-white head. Sweet and sharp aroma, of dark fruits, malt, wood, grass. Sharp taste, burnt malt, wood, dates. Lingering watery sharpness. Eh.
