12 ounce bottle from dmac. Served in my Delirium Tremens tulip. Pours dark red with a bit of off white head. A bit of cherry and cooked sugars in the nose. The flavor has the cherry along with a bit of toffee, and bitterness. Medium body. Average carbonation. Sweeting finish. No problems. Just boring.

I liked this beer. it tastes mostly like a porter, but with a mild hint of belgian sugars and a hop finish that resembles an ESB. Very interesting and worth a try.

12oz bottle extra in trade thanks to kramer17801. pours dark almost black amber in color with white head. aroma of roasted malt some spice and a hint of alcohol. flavor wasnt really doing it for me, spices came through 1st then this taste that i would guess a new (not used) wet sponge would taste like then the roasted malt slightly backing it with a hint of yeast. not a very good brew had high hopes for it from the aroma but the taste was just off.

Jan. 2007 - Beer poured a dark brown color with no head or lacing. Aroma was burnt sweat socks. It tasted a little better...lots of brown sugar and some fruits. A noticeable alcohol burn was also present. It wasn’t repulsive, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other winter seasonals I’ve had.

Pours a dark brown with almost no head. Looks like a Cola soda. Aroma is malt and fruit. Taste is roasty, carmel, malt. a little watery. Ok, nothing special. a little to light in flavor.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear mahogany brown body under a minimal fizzy beige head that was pretty short lived. Light lazy carbonation. The nose is slightly sweet and a little grainy with some notes of Belgian yeast and fruity banana esters. The flavor is similarly sweet and fruity but without a whole lot of depth, the finish is especially thin. The might be decent if it were unfiltered. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with some residual sweetness making it a little clingy. Fizzy boring carbonation. I’m generally opposed to filtration, but filtering a Belgian style beer is just completely wrong.

Now called "Belgian Freeze Winter Ale" this is a malty tasting ale, with a touch of fruit and caramel. Coloring was on the darker sie, and the aroma was inviting. Hides the 8% extremely well. Very easy to drink and a bit drier than expected. Carbonation was good. Wouldn’t go out of my way for it, but I’d drink it again. Probably the best brew from River Horse.
