mjs (1445), Helsinki, Finland Oct 24, 2009 (Cask at Chelsea Cask Festival) Amber and lightly hazy. Small white head. Molasses and hops in aroma. Medium bodied palate with little carbonation. Malts, hops, sweetness, fruitiness, bitterness and grass in taste. Hops and bitterness in afertaste. Too sweet aroma but otherwise ok. dand645 (62), Bayonne, New Jersey, USA Oct 20, 2009 nothing really special going on here...pretty much a run of the mill pale ale... jimmay (179), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Oct 13, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours light copper in colour, with a nice frothy off-white head, which leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is earthy, herbal hops. Taste is super bitter. Carbonation is very fine, with a smooth, sweet finish. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Oct 9, 2009 12oz bottle from dmac. Pours ruddy, dark amber with a thin white head, good lace. Smells of big caramel malts with a hint of dark, earthy hops. Tastes the same. Big malts, sweet and caramelly with a lightly bitter, dark, citrusy hop character. Ok. Medium body, ok carbonation. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Oct 9, 2009 From dmac via trade. Pour a hazy golden/amber color with an active white head and plenty of lacing. The aroma was loaded with pine and floral hops and a brief whiff of citrus. The flavor was mostly pine hops with some bitter orange rind and not enough sweet malts to even it out. Thin and easy drinking with a clean finish. ditmier (1015), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 7, 2009 2009 Bottle - Thanks dand645! - Pours a dk amber with a small off white head...aroma is grainy and hoppy, floral and a touch spicy, dry grainy malt...flavour is suprising, bold right off the bat, roast grain, coffee?, bitter and flavouring hops, lingering bite...I really liked this garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2009 Appearance: Murky brown/red with a small yet frothy off white head. Aroma: Quite hoppy with a good deal of malt hidden behind it, some orange peel and toffee and the tiniest bit of pepper. Flavour: Initially a good deal of hops, one can definitely tell its been dry-hopped, nice and muted, lots of malt, slight coffee, orange peel and with a long dry hop finish. Not bad. Not bad at all. DannyP (29), Connecticut, USA Sep 28, 2009 Pours a Dark amber with a minimal head. Just a hint of malt sweetness in the nose, with little slightly perceivable hop character in the aroma. Surprising as they boast the fact that it was dry-hopped.
What I like about this beer is malt. It’s got a good, almost bready malt flavor with a wonderful mouthfeel.
It takes a while, but leaves quite the bitter finish on my tongue.
I like it, I’d buy again, but maybe in another sampler, not a 6er of this alone.
