Nice head for the eight seconds or so it lasted. Lacing is decent. Hop Hazard? Dry hopped? Oh, c’mon...I don’t even taste ANY hops! No wonder this brewery doesn’t make an IPA, I don’t think they’d know how. Flavor is of sweet malt and not even bitter in the slightest. Not a horrible beer by any stretch, but the name is misleading...........everything about this beer seems like a Marzen to me? Would have gotten higher ratings if it was named appropriately. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 25, 2007 12 oz pour. Nice darker than usual color for an APA with nice head and aroma of hops + malt. Very malty taste with less hop flavor than the nose would expect. Good beer but not exceptional. Good session beer. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 24, 2007 A small yet creamy, dirty-ecru head is fast over a deep copper body with a light particulate haze. Unrefined aroma of grapefruit and dishwater with sour milk and some grain alcohol late. Thin, bitter flavor with some odd coffee notes backing up the hopcit.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2006 Dec. 15, 2006; 12 oz. bottle. My first experience with a River Horse product; this hoppy pale ale just turned up in the local market today. The aroma and flavor is a pleasant surprise although, sadly, the thin/watery all-too-quick finish lets you down a bit in the end. Balance is quite good, and (as the name suggests) there is a doff of the cap to the hopheads before the initial teasing bitterness races away. I’d like to try this brewery’s take on an IPA.
