My first experience with a River Horse product; this hoppy pale ale just turned up in the local market today. The aroma and flavor is a pleasant surprise although, sadly, the thin/watery all-too-quick finish lets you down a bit in the end. Balance is quite good, and (as the name suggests) there is a doff of the cap to the hopheads before the initial teasing bitterness races away. I’d like to try this brewery’s take on an IPA. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2006 pours a cloudy brown hue with a tan head . Aromas of sweet malt, roasted oats, and wheat. Flavors of wheat and honey with a mild bitterness. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 2, 2006 Dark amber pour with a light off-white head. The aroma has sweet caramel malts, veggie and cinnamon - this is a dry hopped pale ale, um okay. Medium body with light soft carbonation. Starts with gentle caramel malt and some fruit. The finish has a light amount of spice that may be from hops. Decent beer, but not like a pale ale and certainly not dry hop tasting. If this were listed as a English pale or ESB it would be much truer to style. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 26, 2006 bottle-thanks to vyvvy for sharing this one. copper hue with a small swirly soapy head. nose is fairly malty with notes of sweet carmel, toasted malt with a little earthyness. dry hopped? WHERE? This thing had barely any hop notes to mention. The ones that are there are really subuded and not floral in the slightest. maybe it was an old bottle, but i dont think so. the beer was not oxidized in the flavors, just really boring and not what i was expecting form this pale. If this beer were an ESB, then i would give it pretty high marks. finish is astringent and dirty (earthy hops). really needs work. jason (1627), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 20, 2006 Bottle. Pours a huge head that stays, there was some life to this one. Great smelling hops used too. Taste is very hoppy but decent. Not as smooth as I would like. Odd mouthfeel. Beerdedone (1888), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA
