My first beer from my parents home state of New Jersey. Pours out dark brown with a 2 inch tan head and big blotches of lacing. Aroma is malt chocolate, oats, light coffee. Flavor is mostly chocolate and oat, with some milkiness and a wee bit of coffee. Very sweet beer, but quite enjoyable, went down very easily. Would definitely drink this one again. Aroma of molasses, grain, and coffee. The body is full, texture creamy, with average carbonation, and an astringent finish. The flavor’s duration is long, heavily sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. drfabulous (1211), Columbia, Missouri, USA Jul 14, 2009 A sweet stout. Lots of that "milk" stout taste lingering with some of the roastyness of an oatmeal. Not too dark. Medium body. Nihon (239), Vernon, Connecticut, USA Jul 13, 2009 Roasted malt, coffee, toffee aroma. Good drinkability, a little sour, a little sweet, semi bitter flavor. Well balanced beer overall. Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA May 28, 2009 THOUGHTS: A really nice beer. Tons of flavor and fairly easy to drink. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark brown that was nearly black in the glass with slight red highlights and an average, tan head that kept a thin sheet and left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy roasted, burnt, sour and oaty malt, light milk chocolate and mild coffee, and very light hops. The initial flavor was sweet, bitter, slightly acidic and sour; while the finish was very sweet, bitter and sour with an average duration. There was roasted malt, sour malt, oats, chocolate, slight coffee, and toward the end a slight fruitiness. The medium to full body was creamy with lightly fizzy carbonation and a light astringent finish. blankboy (3156), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 25, 2009 My bottle (12oz) shared with garthicus. Pours a a very dark brown, almost black, with an average size diminishing frothy light-brown head. Dry, roasty aroma along with coffee, chocolate and oatmeal. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee, some lactic notes, nuts and a hint of hops. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Surprisingly quite good.
