Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/anise, ashy, lactic, secondary sharp/acidic hops. Taste is rich dark malt-chocolate/cocoa, ashy, lactic, secondary sharp/acidic hops. Good carbonation. Closer to a dark porter with the amount of hops. Not quite to my taste but nice. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out. douglas88 (1643), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a medium creamy light brown head. The aroma is pretty nice, roasted malts, coffee, a chocolate shake, some cola also. The taste is very smooth, lots of oats, milky coffee and chocolate, creamy and milky. Not bad at all. A nice late morning or afternoon brew. EithCubes (2164), Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Bottle. Nice dry stout roast nose with overtones of lactose. Coke-pitch pour with a creamy, rocky tan head. Watery-thin body has a dry and roasty taste, lightly ashy in the finish and aftertaste, with smooth flashes of lactose in the teeth. Cream and coffee memories with light oaten slipperiness. Good (and packs a bit of a kick)! hopdog (5608), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 20, 2008 Brewed in the USA.....Pours very dark brown almost black in color with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, oatmeal, and grains. Taste is of bitter chocolate, smoky malts, with a hint of coffee and hops. Overall, i would say this is the best brew that ive had for R.H. But i would also like to add that i think this is a bit on the thin side for a stout. dmac (1500), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 20, 2008 12 oz bottle from EZ Liquors. Pours a medium density pitch black with super dark mahogany edges and an average size foamy light beige head. First inhale produced a rather suprisingly pleasant aroma, chocolate, oats, milk, and then as it settles a slight mustiness creeps in with some dusty malts. Palate is medium bodied with lots of bubbly carbonation, too much for an oatmeal bodied stout. Flavor of coffee grounds, bitter dark chocolate, burnt malts. Nothing crazy special here but a rather good effort from River Horse. jeff789 (411), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2008 Pours a deep brown nearly black with a smallish light brown head and has a fair amount of lacing... Aroma of roasted malts with subtle hint of chocolate... Taste of burnt malts, not nearly the creaminess i would expect... Medium to full bodied with a bit of drying hops in the finish... Good, but i would have liked it a bit creamier...
