12oz bottle. Poured a dark black color with brown edges and virtually no head at all. What head was there was off white. Aromas of chocolate, some oatmeal, roast, and some lactose. Tastes of oats, caramel, chocolate, light coffee. and roast. Thin and somewhat flat body.

12 oz bottle-pours a foamy to rich dissipating brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/anise, ashy, lactic, secondary sharp/acidic hops. Taste is rich dark malt-chocolate/cocoa, ashy, lactic, secondary sharp/acidic hops. Good carbonation. Closer to a dark porter with the amount of hops. Not quite to my taste but nice. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out.

Pours a mostly opaque with dark mahogany edges with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and milk chocolate with some mild English hops. Body starts with a good fullness and rich sweet dark chocolatey notes with a roasty coffee finish. Nicely balanced with bitter chocolate and oatmeal smoothness. An enjoyable milk stout.

Bottle… Pitch black ale with a small, frothy, beige head. Good retention. The luxuriant, sweet aroma presents chocolate, nuts and lots of vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. The flavor is roasty and fairly sweet and imparts shades of chocolate, nuts and coffee. Finishes crisp and mildly sweet. Kudos to scraff for floating a bottle of this beer my way!

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Smells of sweet malt, nutty, earthy. Tastes sweet with oatmeal prevailing and a tarte finish.

Bottle ( 12oz ). Opaque black, thin-looking with a large frothy tan head. Dry, moderately lactic and herbal aroma, hint of raisin, coffee and nutshell. Taste is nutty, milky, roasty, somewhat sweet but with good balancing dry bitterness, chocolate and a hint of mint - light alcohol. Slick, smooth, creamy mouthfeel, not at all astringent or acidic, really lovely on the tongue - really nice for the style, pitchers please!!

Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan lacing. Sweet lactose and milk duds, a subtle oatmeal and hint of chocolate scrapings. Creamy with a slightly sweet finish. Not bad for the style.

On tap at Clover leaf Tavern. Pours a nice deep dark brownish black with a real nice creamy head and great lace. Aroma is nutty, good roast, some chocolate, earth, toasted malts, and a light sweetness. Flavor is moderately sweet with a nice nutty chocolate- some yeasty doughy hints from fermentation, but works ok with the dark roasted malts, and has a really smooth creamy finish. One of the best from River Horse for sure.
