Commercial Description:
Special Ale is our flagship ESB. It’s been with us from the start and hasn’t changed since that first brew way back in 1996. Ample quantities of caramel malt give this English ale a soft copper hue and the colorful addition of carapils malt adds a slight sweetness you might mistake for honey.

Eh. that’s what this beer, and this brewery does for me. No real special bitter aroma, or flavor here.

Copper body with resiny head. Aroma is caramel malts. Sweet and agressive on the front. Stays caramel sweet througout. Just overly sweet for me.

Aroma of tangerines and some light malt. Hazy copper in color with a decent head. Medium palate. Lots of citrus and some bitterness in the end. Very light throughout and easy to drink.

Spurted foamy off white suds when the cap came off (points off my overall drinking experience). Body was a murky, copper brown with orange hues. Smells very malty, but also aromatic hints of grain and yeast. Flavor was definitely not special. Flat, lemony, no pop, tastes like an afterthought. Not very memorable. All in all, I’d pass this by every time.

not too much going on here, if anything it is easy drinking and does kinda have a neat spicy/malt/ bitter aftertaste.

nice amber color,VERY carbonated-dont know if I got a bad one or not. Doesnt taste like an ESB-as a matter of fact it doesnt taste like much of anything. Slight bitterness in the aftertaste. I’ll rerate another one later but for now, not so good.

Initial pour with a large head and a light medium amber color. Light yeasty aroma, mild hops. Very light body. Below average for style.
