Commercial Description:
Special Ale is our flagship ESB. It’s been with us from the start and hasn’t changed since that first brew way back in 1996. Ample quantities of caramel malt give this English ale a soft copper hue and the colorful addition of carapils malt adds a slight sweetness you might mistake for honey.

Bottle. Dark amber color with a thin, quickly diminishing head. Aroma of biscuity malt with a bit of canned fruit salad in light syrup and lavender or other floral notes. Bready, slightly sweet malt flavor, with like a pear or honeysuckle flavor which the bottle reveals as coming from the addition of Carapils malt. Interesting, but I can’t stop thinking that this tastes like someone accidently spilled perfume in my beer. Palate smooth, light and drinkable, making it a good session beer for those who are into the flavors.

Thanks to stegosaurus for this one. 12 oz bottle. Poured a hazy copper with minimal head. I wasn’t to impressed with the appearence. Had a floral aroma the taste while a little thin for my likings, still was smooth going down. Not a bad beer.

light brown nutty color with good carbonation. perfectly refreshing, with a quickly developing and mature satisfying kick of flavor right before the taste drops off leaving you wanting another sip. I would describe the flavor to you in detail, but really, you have to taste things for yourself. Excellent ESB, a perfectly well flavored and refreshing microbrew.

Very light bitterness - this thing really doesn’t deserve the ESB handle. Very watery all-around. Disappointing overall.

12oz. bottle. Slightly murky yellow-orange with a thin film of white head formed of huge bubbles. Earthy caramel and mild chocolate maltiness with tinges of herbal hops in the aroma. Watery caramel with some butterscotch tones as well. Faint residual butteriness in the finish with vestiges of vegetal hpo character. Mouthfeel is light, almost watery thin.

The aroma is lightly caramelly and hop aroma is very light. The flavor has a light caramelly sweetness with low levels of hoppishness. Finish on the palate is almost watery.

Poured a hazy copper color with a thin off-white head. Aroma of toffee, candy brittle, buttery, earthy and vegetal. The flavor was malty with a light sweetness and some tartness. Fair body.
