Poured orange-reddish, aroma of malts some hops; the commerical description is almost spot-on, except the thin body, and a bit too much carbonation, slight malt in the mouth. Easy to down. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 14, 2005 Pours clear reddish copper with a thin beige head and minimal lacing. Roasted malt aroma with a bit of hops. Medium-bodied with caramel and earthy malt flavors, as well as mild grass and hops. The finish is short and slightly bitter. This beer will not win any awards in the category, nevertheless it is a straightforward and easy to drink brew. bigrond (1055), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA

It does have a really nice color though Kinz (2215), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 27, 2005 Draft ODBF. I had wanted to try the tripel, but was on my last wooden token with no intentions of buying another one. So I went for the bitter. Light copper, little head. Faint orange citric aroma. Thinnish in the mouth. Very faint caramel and citrus flavor. Just not enought malt to hold it together. hopscotch (5543), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jun 26, 2005 Draft at Old Dominion Beer Festival 2005... Crystal clear amber ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The nose is just a touch skunky (which is odd, considering my glass was pulled from a keg) and grapefruity. Lightly sweet and malty up front, but perfectly balanced by the hops. Other than being just a touch malty and perfectly balanced there’s not much to the flavor at all... maybe a touch of clover. Light-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Short, crisp, clean finish. Disappointing overall. jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 22, 2005 Sparkling clear copper with a pillowy manila head. The aroma is earthy adn loaded with British hops. The flavor is 7 grain bread dipped in caramel sauce eaten in a freshly plowed field. The hops are subdued, bitterness is low. Soft palate a bit watery. Better than I expected. Mellow all around, something that is all too rarely appreciated around here. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jun 21, 2005 Orange body without a head after a moment. The aroma is malty, dry and ashy. Minerals abound. The flavor is very, very thin with a hint of caramel. There is not much body at all, and it is a pretty poor example of the ESB style. Very mild hints of sweet heather. notalush (2690), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jun 21, 2005 Watery and thin - barely any hop flavor at all, and the malt "backbone" has a touch of scoliosis - a tiny bit of caramel and mild sweetness - bland, lifeless finish - pass on this one if given the choice.
